If this is the first Parents United Legislative Update you are receiving–welcome! If you have been with us over the last seven years—thank you.

Challenging Expectation, a tpt original documentary is previewing this coming weekend. It is truly worth your time. Watch it and enter into the conversation!

From guest blogger and facilitator of an early September 10th screening of Challenging Expectations Kent Pekel:  “The program offers a compelling overview of the urgent need to put students from groups that have long been underrepresented in higher education — especially students of color and low-income students — on the path to success at technical, community and four-year colleges.

The program describes many of the changes that schools, colleges and community partners need to make to reach that goal, from increasing access to challenging high school classes to providing mentors and support systems for students who face challenges beyond the classroom.”

The following information is from the tpt site:

Challenging Expectations explores barriers to education. Hear from students, educators and the state’s leading thinkers in this 60-minute program.

—Challenging Expectations: Youth Voices is a 30-minute spinoff featuring only youth perspectives, experiences and opinions on education issues.
