Date to Remember
January 5, 2006
Room 15 State Capitol

You are invited

You are invited to the State Capitol on January 5 at 10AM where Senator Mark Dayton will announce his Award for Excellence in Education program. This is the kick off!  Senator Dayton is establishing this award to publicly recognize the individual success stories in our schools.

Every school or district that receives an Award will receive a flag that has been flown over the nation’s Capitol and a framed Congressional Record statement honoring the achievement.  “Any person or group can nominate a school or district… and all are all encouraged to recognize their school’s outstanding contributions!”  Read more here.

Come and bring your children (if they are still out of school) to hear Senator Dayton’s words of encouragement as he launches his program to publicly support our Minnesota schools.

Thank you

As the year ends, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to thank you—the people who stood up for our children and the public schools that serve them. Last year at this time, I was told repeatedly that our public schools might receive 2% in additional funding—and that was iffy. You changed that outcome!

Parents have become a force to be reckoned with. Everywhere I go these days, people want to gain a parent perspective on public school issues, but more importantly, it is apparent that parents have become knowledgeable about how public policy affects their local schools. This has not always been so and it is because you have gone out of your way to focus on our children’s future. Thank you. I look forward to working with you again next year!

Our Funders

The response to our request to help with our outreach work this year has been very encouraging.  Thank you to all of you who responded.

Oftentimes, we are asked, “What can I do to help?” Parents United is looking for partners to help us do something extraordinary together that none of us can do alone!

We know that great schools begin at the ballot box with educated voters understanding the connection between their vote and the health of their local schools. Parents in urban, suburban and rural communities are watching the struggle in their public schools. This is a statewide concern, a statewide need and therefore demands a statewide solution.

Parents United wants to expand our outreach efforts so that we can truly be a statewide voice for our public schools. We need to make further inroads in greater Minnesota and with our cultural communities. We are seeking funding to do just that. We want to partner with you.

Please consider investing the cost of a tank of gas with us so that we can travel the roads in this great state and help all our voices be heard. Imagine a critical mass of parents standing together for their children and the schools that serve them. Imagine the difference we can make. Imagine.

Donations to Parents United are fully tax-deductible, and gifts of all sizes are appreciated. Donate online, using a credit card, or send your check to: Parents United for Public Schools, 833 Nordic Ave., Stillwater, MN 55082.

Thank you for your ongoing support of public school children!
