Dear Governor Pawlenty: I’m writing to you as a member of Parents United Network because I am concerned about the growing use of school levies to fund basic education programs in our state. On Tuesday Minnesotans from many school districts will be voting on referendums that will increase revenues for their schools. If these ballot provisions fail, school boards across the state will be forced to make draconian cuts to their educational programs. If they fail, Minnesota will lose a chance to invest in its future. Investment in our children and our future should not depend on the outcome of these levies on property taxes. Minnesota’s constitution requires the state to provide its children with a free public education. It’s time for the state to meet its responsibility. Thank you for your service to our state and its students. Sincerely, Anne M. Hoops | ||||||||||
