NCLB was scheduled for Congressional reauthorization in 2007—but has been delayed. Use these resources to learn more about what issues need to be addressed and what changes should be made, or to form your own opinion about whether or not the law should be scrapped in its entirety:

March 2010 - A Blueprint for Reform: The Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act - A a framework to guide our deliberations and

January 2010 - College- and Career-Ready: Using Outcomes Data to Hold High Schools Accountable for School Success - NCLB accountability system often labels schools as failing while ignoring actual evidence of college success. Schools labeled as failing are more likely to be subject to reforms and overhauls, even as their students go off to college and succeed. As federal lawmakers consider reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, they have the opportunity to use the dividends of that investment to solve one of the most vexing problems in K–12 policy: how to hold high schools accountable for preparing students to succeed in college and careers, Education Sector.

January 2004 - From the Capital to the Classroom: Year 2 of the No Child Left Behind Act - States and school districts are trying hard to meet the requirements of the Act and agree with its goals; broader and deeper effects of the law were being felt by school districts in 2003, which is resulting in additional help for schools identified for improvement; choosing another public school is rarely used by parents of children in identified schools, while the option of receiving tutoring services is used more frequently; states and school districts are moving slowly to update the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals as required by the Act; some of the requirements of the Act are unworkable; and states and school districts face serious funding pressures and a lack of capacity to carry out the Act, Center for Education Policy.
