I expect your lives are as hectic as ours, what with kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews leading way more active lives than I recall growing up, as well as the challenges of our own daily lives—work, chores, volunteering and, more and more, managing e-mail.  Please bear with me as I ask you to add one more thing to the list.

Over the last few months I've becomed involved with Parents United. This is a statewide organization of parents, friends, relatives and students who believe that public schools are the bedrock of our democracy and that public education is the key to a safe, sane and successful future.

We have already enrolled over 4,000 people throughout Minnesota—suburban, rural and urban families—who are drawn together by their fundamental agreement that public schools need our support now more than ever. We may disagree on curriculum, testing, extra curricular programs and a slew of other matters, but we agree that schools can't serve all of our children without sufficient resources.

The State of Minnesota is in terrible shape financially directly as a result of decisions made by our elected officials, and we're all sharing the pain, one way or another.

Parents United draws the line at funding for public schools. We Minnesotans are willing to make sacrifices, but we won't abandon our kids.

I ask you to visit the Parents United Web site—www.parentsunited.org—and sign up to be on the list.

No cost.  No obligation. But I do hope you will be inspired to speak out for schools in your community. I've addressed this email to this wing of the family because you are well-disbursed throughout the state. It's essential that legislators in every part of the state hear this message from their own constituents. The Web site provides easy tools to help you join the campaign.

If you've had enough of citizen activism, the delete key is your friend. If, on the other hand, you're persuaded by my appeal and the Web site content, forward this message with abandon!!!
