Bemidji School Board needs more time to consider changes in staffing
Bemidji Pioneer, April 17, 2012 –
After two hours of discussion, the Bemidji School District’s Board of Education decided to wait a week until deciding whether to approve a list of staff positions to cut and hire.
District administrators are recommending the board approve the following full-time equivalent positions are cut:
E Bemidji High School: .17 English; .33 family and consumer sciences; .17 mathematics; .25 physical education and .17 Spanish instructors.
E Elementary schools: .5 physical education; .5 art; 2 computer keyboard and technology and 1.5 library and media instructors.
E School district: .9 special education teacher.
The following fulltime equivalent positions are proposed to be added:
E Bemidji High School and Lumberjack High School: .25 medical careers and .33 science instructors.
E Elementary schools: .70 music instructor.
E School district: 1 school psychologist.
District administrators also recommend the board not renew the contracts of several probationary teachers and approve a list of teachers with continuing contracts be placed on unrequested leave of absence.
This recommendation is due to licensures, performance, registration and enrollment shifts and scheduling, according to Jordan Hickman, the district’s director of human resources.
