How to participate in the Star Tribune Opinion pages

The Star Tribune welcomes contributions from readers, whether in the form of letters, the extended letters we call Counterpoints or articles for the Commentary page. Our address is Editorial Department, Star Tribune, 425 Portland Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55488. Submissions may be sent by fax to 612-673-4359. Letters and other commentary also may be submitted via this form.

Please specify whether your article is intended as a letter, Counterpoint or Commentary, although we must make the final decision ourselves.

We require that all submissions be exclusive in Minnesota. All must include the writer's name, address, occupation and telephone numbers (work and home) and letters must include the writer's signature. We edit all submissions.

Letters should be brief, up to 250 words. Counterpoints should be no longer than 500 words. Commentary articles should be kept to 700 words. Please don't send submissions as attachments.

By submitting a letter to the editor, a Counterpoint letter or a Commentary article to the Star Tribune, you are agreeing to give the Star Tribune permission to publish the letter or article in any format and in any medium, including but not limited to startribune.com and the Star Tribune's electronic archives. All letters submitted become the property of the Star Tribune.

We select, edit and publish material as quickly as possible; we give priority to the most timely. Because of the volume of mail we receive, we do not return manuscripts. To determine the status of your submission, check the newspaper; letters and Counterpoints accepted for publication will appear within a month. Authors of Commentary articles accepted for publication will be notified within three weeks.
