Take Action for Kids: Spring Break

The 2008 Easter holiday is a short one for the Minnesota State Legislature, only Thursday through Monday, March 20-24.  It's a time for legislators to return home, regroup and restore.

For those getting together with family and faith communities, it's a time to connect, share our stories and learn from each other.  It's a time for us to step back and think more broadly about the connections between our kids, our schools, and our communities; and the connections between the decisions our policymakers make and the viability of our children, families, schools and communities.

These Minnesota organizations are actively working to help people see those connections:

  • Children’s Defense Fund - Minnesota -  Provides a strong and effective voice for children through research, publication, public education, advocacy and outreach.

  • iCAN - Interfaith Children's Advocacy Network (formerly Congregations Concerned for Children) organizes people of faith in Minnesota to advance socially just legislation in the areas of children's health care, child care and early education, and a healthy home environment. They are a network of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC), which includes Minnesota Catholic Conference, Islamic Center of Minnesota, Jewish Community Relations Council and Minnesota Council of Churches. (Note: The JRLC has posted some good pictures of their recent Day on the Hill.)

  • ISAIAH - Building Strong Congregations . . . Strong Communities

Together, we can make a difference.

Here’s what you can do:

Next Wednesday and Thursday the Minnesota PTA and the Voices for Children Collaborative will be at the Capitol.  Find a group that's going from your community to see if you can go along:

Spring break reminds us to spring into action.
