Respecting the constitutional obligation of Minnesota to provide a “general and uniform system of education,” Parents United for Public Schools supports legislation that provides sufficient and predictable funding for public schools.
We support policies which honor Minnesota’s historical commitment to locally controlled expenditures. This commitment has resulted in high student achievement and made Minnesota a national model for excellence in education.
We aspire to build on the distinguished success of Minnesota’s public schools, knowing they are essential for our state’s economic health and are the means to provide equal opportunity for all Minnesota’s children.
Specifically, Parents United for Public Schools supports legislation which:
- Provides dependable, sustainable and sufficient funding for the needs of Minnesota’s public school children.
- Provides the additional resources necessary to meet rising expectations of state and federal standards and accountability.
- Provides necessary resources for schools to use proven strategies to improve learning, including lower class sizes, all-day kindergarten and early childhood programs.
- Provides broad access to technology.
- Allows schools to retain and retrain teachers, using best practices in professional development.
- Provides transparency for parents and taxpayers to better understand how schools are funded.
