Jim Morrison

Jim gained a good understanding of school funding issues in Minnesota by serving four years on the Budget Advisory Council for District 196 (Rosemount–Apple Valley–Eagan).

He was also one of the founding organizers of UNITE 196, a local parent-citizen group working to support excellence in education for the students of the Rosemount–Apple Valley–Eagan school district.

During the 2001 levy campaign, Jim moderated a UNITE 196 public forum that successfully drew people from across the political spectrum to discuss the levy and other issues related to the Rosemount–Apple Valley–Eagan school district.

His oldest now lives in San Francisco where Jim frequently travels for work and to enjoy sightseeing and finding new restaurants. He also has two in college (Minnesota and Wisconsin) and one in high school. "My high school-aged daughter is a dancer, so once a year she and I perform in the recital’s daughter-dad dance. It’s always a great experience, plus I get to prove to everyone that she got all of her talent from me."

In addition to travel, Jim enjoys water skiing, amateur video and sound production, photography and Web site development for the high school band program.

“I’ve always believed that this country's greatest competitive edge is its outstanding public education system. It is under a lot of stress these days, but we need to do everything we can to ensure it continues for the next generations.”
