Dear Policy Makers –

I have been reading about the various school levy proposals to be considered by voters in November.  It seems those efforts often pit one group  in a community against others—parents of school-age children against senior citizens worried about losing their homes due to ever-increasing property taxes, private school parents against public school parents, and so on.  Of the many important roles state government plays, education is clearly the most important—no stakes could be higher than the education of our children, who are also our upcoming workforce.  It seems crazy to have education funding be so dependent upon these local levy campaigns.  It would be difficult to run a business financed by referendum—and the same is true for schools.  Please consider increasing state support for public schools—local communities need the state to step up on education funding!

Thank you.
