As a program director for Humble Beginnings, a diversionary program for kids with truancy issues, Glynn brings a strong passion for excellent, effective education for children. His profession allows him to work with kids, parents and schools to focus on the importance of education and the kids’ future. Glynn has two boys in the Robbinsdale School District where he is involved with the elementary PTA and a vocal cheerleader for the senior high football team. At the district level, Glynn serves on the Robbinsdale Interschool Council and is a member of the System Accountability Committee. He joined the Parents United board in the fall of 2006. Outside of advocacy, Glynn enjoys sports, especially football and working out. His hobby is filming events and his family with the camcorder, and he likes to read “effective and powerful books.” He also likes to play video games, and watch movies and televised sporting events with his two boys. “Being involved empowers me with knowledge as it relates to advocating for children. This knowledge also allows me to share valuable information with other concerned parents. “The most important thing I have learned can be summarized in a quote from the book Think and Grow Rich, which says, ‘Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only when, and if, it is organized into definite plans of action and directed to a definite end.’” —Glynn Merriewether | |||||||||||||||||||||||
