Certain school sites are eligible for funding to operate full-day Kindergarten programs or half-day programs for four-year-olds to develop reading and other skills necessary to succeed in school. School sites with the highest concentrations of pupils eligible for free- and reduced-price lunch are eligible for funding.
School sites are ranked, and the funding is allocated and distributed, in four categories: Minneapolis, St. Paul, suburban school districts within the seven-county metropolitan area, and school districts in the balance of greater Minnesota. The funding is the amount equal to .53 times pupils enrolled in the program times the general education formula allowance.
