Raising Expectations

Minnesota is implementing two major education reform efforts:

Although different, the two are very much related:

"To ensure that all public school students have access to a high-quality and challenging education and become proficient in the core academic subjects of reading/language arts, mathematics, and science, States will develop and implement academic content and achievement standards in these subjects and administer annual assessments aligned to the standards."

March 2003 - Standards and Assessments Non-Regulatory Guidance, U.S. Department of Education.

Fall 2005 - Harnessing the Scientific Spirit to Improve Learning - A series of weekly Web and audio segments on using scientifically based research and assessments to increase student achievement, e.g., "What would the educational equivalent of the FDA be like?" Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement.
