Sent to the "Big Three": Please consider the opportunity for governmental efficiency that exists for the state to step up and meet its constitutional responsibility for funding education. Across the state operating referenda elections are taking time, energy and money out of the classroom. With so many districts carefully navigating the election process this year, valuable resources are being diverted from our primary mission . . . educating the youth of Minnesota. Other aspects of referenda funding are less than optimal as well, including equity for students, community anxiety and the roller coaster effect of approval and expiration. Please consider this opportunity for improving the education funding system by adequately funding education and eliminate the need for local operating elections. In the alternative, please consider allowing the children to vote on operating referendums. After all they are going to inherit our national debt. It's the least we can do to prepare them for a future where they will have to pay for it. Sincerely, Chris J. Leinen | ||||||||||||||||||||||
