May 20, 2009 - Weigh-in on unallotment before Governor acts

Minnesota Council of Nonprofits

The Governor is calling a special meeting of his Cabinet tomorrow morning [Thursday, May 21] to begin working on the process of unallotment to resolve the state’s remaining $2.7 billion deficit projected for FY 2010-11, anticipated to be the result of an upcoming veto of the conference report on HF 2323 passed in the final moments of the 2009 legislative session.

The Governor has indicated he will be “quick, careful and thoughtful” in his decision-making. He also stated in his Tuesday morning press conference that he welcomes and invites the input of Minnesota citizens and stakeholders.

Please submit your ideas on resolving the state’s budget situation to him at budgetideas@state.mn.us  MCN has called on the Governor to meet with nonprofit leaders who can share their expertise and experiences in serving many of Minnesota’s citizens most deeply affected by the current economic downturn and the state’s fiscal decisions.

Nonprofit advocates and organizers are already meeting to develop strategies for influencing and monitoring the unallotment process. MCN will keep you informed of developments as they emerge. Please share your ideas with the Governor’s Office and stay tuned! Don’t schedule that summer vacation just yet…
