Community Engaged Parent Education:
What Every Parent Educator Needs to Know!
What pressures do parents feel today?
Can we build the capacity of parents to make a difference?

All parent education topics connect to pressure points for parents.
“Some unsupervised kids at the mall play areas are mean to my children; what should I do?” “What foods are being marketed to my toddler?”

Community Engaged Parent Education is an approach to addressing very real parenting challenges. Specific strategies to facilitate parent group discussions will be presented.

Attend this workshop to:
Enliven and deepen your group discussions.
Gain confidence in helping parents deal with societal issues.
Learn skills to incorporate the Culture and Community Domain of the MDE Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework in your teaching.

MNAFEE, in conjunction with the McKnight Community Engaged Parent Education Project and the University of Minnesota, is providing this workshop day at six different locations. Dr. William Doherty, University of Minnesota professor and popular author, has been the principal leader of this project for the last 4 years, along with ECFE Parent Educator, Beth Cutting. The other presenters are community engaged parent educators who have been part of the development team and the first group of trained Community Engaged Parent Educators in greater Minnesota.

Anyone working with parents will be able to apply these skills and principles. Join us for an exciting professional development day to build upon the skills you already have. A copy of the Community Engaged Parent Education Handbook and other resources are included in the registration fee along with lunch and light refreshments.

Registration fees are $45 for MNAFEE members and $55 for non-members.
