January 2008 - Science Standards Revision Process Begins

The Minnesota Academic Standards in Science Revision process began in January with recruitment of committee members to review and revise the Science Standards (history and nature of science; earth and space science; physical science; and life science).

public comment period on the current (2003) Science Standards took place from January 8 through February 21, 2008.

The Revision Committee Roster was announced February 27th.  The first meeting of the Committee was March 4th where a Technical Writing Team (a subset of the full Committee) was selected.  The full Committee will provide guidance and direction while the Technical Writing Team makes changes to the draft standards.

A Draft of the revised Science Standards is expected to be released prior to a public review and comment period rescheduled to September 8-23.

Following the May public comment period the Committee will incorporate the input and submit the revised standards for expert review in August and again in November.  The Final Revised Science Standards are scheduled to be sent to Commissioner Seagren by February 23, 2009.
