Virtual Rally
4/18/2007

The quality of Minnesota’s public schools is in jeopardy! The legislative session is entering its final stage, and the budget targets are insufficient to meet the needs of our students.

Help public schools by rallying with students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members and citizens who care about the future of Minnesota. Join the Alliance for Student Achievement April 18 in a Virtual Rally for Public Schools.

Contact key leaders and tell them to make four key investments in the future:

  1. pay for the state’s special education mandates
  2. increase the school funding formula by 3%
  3. support voluntary all-day every-day kindergarten and
  4. invest in early childhood public education.

What do I need to do?

Make a few contacts by e-mail or phone. It’s easy. If you have the time and inclination to share a local story, please do so. Local stories help lawmakers see the real impact of their decisions.

Why a virtual rally?

The education community must send a strong and loud message to lawmakers about the value of quality public education. But supporters are trying to avoid the complications of planning a massive event that requires travel and the cooperation of Minnesota’s unpredictable spring weather.

That’s why this rally is “virtual.” We can have the impact of a physical rally by collectively sending in consistent messages to state leaders on one single day: Wednesday, April 18.

Why April 18?

The final bills are coming together, moving to conference committee and then heading to the Governor. This is our LAST CHANCE to make sure those bills include four key investments needed to get our schools on the right track: paying the state’s special education mandates, increasing the school funding formula, and supporting voluntary all-day every-day kindergarten and early childhood public education.
