Sample Call to Your Legislator - 2005

Personal calls can be very effective. This sample provides the basic format for a call to your legislator.

Hi, my name is __________. I am your constituent and I live at __________ in __________ school district. I am a member of Parents United, a coalition of Minnesota parents working to support public schools.

I am calling to ask you to protect K-12 education funding from any budget cuts. Schools have already been cut to the bone and our children cannot afford anymore cuts. I am sure you will agree that investing in all of our children through adequate and stable funding is critical to Minnesota’s future. Thank you for your time.

Additional suggestions: Add a story about your children’s school that specifically speaks to the importance of adequate state funding or the potential harms of decreased state funding.
